USF board member Dora Chomiak speaks at “Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program” conference TCUP 2024 “Decolonization of Ukraine in Theory and Practice”
Since the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation in February 2022, Ukrainian scholars have been at the forefront of the reassessment which is taking place in the field of Slavic, Eastern European and post-Soviet studies. Many articles and conferences have been organized both at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University and at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. Ms. Dora Chomiak, a member of the Board of Directors of the USF, delivered a presentation at the Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program conference “TCUP 2024 Decolonization of Ukraine in Theory and Practice”, which took place on February 2-3, 2024 at Harvard University. Russian and Soviet disinformation campaigns were very effective in infiltrating academic circles in the West. As a result, the path to decolonization will be long and difficult. Since its founding in 1958, the Ukrainian Studies Fund has at times served as the only leading voice in the effort to decolonize scholarship in the West. We have supported numerous publications and research projects to shed light on Russian and Soviet atrocities and the rewriting of history. One of our most recent efforts was to support the publication of The Unpredictable Past? Reshaping Russian, Ukrainian, and East European Studies, edited by Volodymyr Kravchenko and Marko Robert Stekh. The book offers readers a large collection of insightful essays on the topic of decolonization by thirty prominent international scholars. These invited scholars discuss the state of affairs in their respective disciplines and propose possible solutions for their reassessment in the context of current events. The Ukrainian Studies Fund takes great pride in this endeavor, which was made possible thanks to the generosity of our donors.
