Columbia University lecturer Dr. Yuri Shevchuk publishes first of its kind “Ukrainian-English Collocations Dictionary”

On March 23, 2021, the first ever Ukrainian-English Collocations Dictionary appeared in print.  For the period from 1596 to 2018, more than 9,240 dictionaries of the Ukrainian language of various types were compiled. However, until now, Ukrainian lexicography could not boast a single, bilingual dictionary of word combinations and phrases. The new dictionary describes in detail the compatibility of the most frequent words of the modern Ukrainian language, including those used in everyday conversation, journalism, politics, art, sports, education and other areas of communication. The dictionary contains 200,000 word combinations, 80,000 illustrated examples, 8,000 synonyms, and over 1,000 antonyms. The dictionary will be of great help to students and teachers of the Ukrainian language, translators, journalists, entrepreneurs and researchers. The compiler of the dictionary, Dr. Yuri Shevchuk, is a lecturer at Columbia University. The effort to compile material for this unique dictionary lasted several years and was financed thanks to the generous support of USF donors.
